Mr. Adam Welcome, Nov. 18th - 1st Gen. Session
Adam has been a teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal andDirector of Innovation for a district with 35,000 students.
He was a '20 To Watch' with the National School Board Association, Principal of the Year in his region, a Fellow with the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and has been writing about education for the past15 years.
Adam is passionate about connecting with other educators from across the country and makes it clear that kids come first and has preached the message of Team Kid for many years. He is also the co-founder of Kids Deserve It, the best-selling author of four books and he has three podcasts.
Adam has an amazing wife (Stacy) and two young children (Greta and Tilden) that keep life at home exciting and active. Adam also loves to run and has finished over 30 marathons.
Mrs. Allyson Apsey, Nov. 18th - 2nd Gen. Session
Allyson Apsey has been an award-winning school leader for nearly 20 years, leading all levels from Elementary to High School after teaching elementary and middle school students. She is the author of several books—including best-sellers What Makes a Great Principal, Lead with Collaboration, Leading the Whole Teacher, and The Path to Serendipity. Her greatest joy comes from working with dedicated groups of educators to support them in taking care of the whole child and the whole educator by implementing research-proven practices. Allyson’s TEDx Talk can give you an insight into her passion. She currently serves districts, schools and organizations throughout the country as a keynote speaker, professional learning provider, and an Instruction and Leadership Coach with Creative Leadership Solutions.
Colonel Art J. Athens, USMCR (Ret.) Nov. 19th - 3rd Gen. Session
Colonel Athens is a retired Marine Corps officer and the former Director of the U.S. Naval Academy’s Vice Admiral James B. Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership. He currently speaks around the country, educating and inspiring leaders in the public, private and non-profit sectors to lead with excellence and integrity.
Colonel Athens is an honorary Senior Chief Petty Officer of the Navy and an honorary graduate of the Naval Academy’s Classes of 1981 and 2009. He is the recipient of the Department of the Navy’s highest honorary award for a civilian employee. Additionally, he has been a volunteer lacrosse coach at the high school and collegiate levels and the Washington Post recognized him as their High School Coach of the Year.
Colonel Athens is married to the former Misti Root of Williamsburg, Virginia and they have 10 children.
Dr. Ryan Daniel, Nov. 19th - 4th Gen. Session
Dr. Ryan Daniel is currently serving as the Principal of Fort Foote Elementary School. Through her eighteen years in Prince George’s County Public Schools, she has served in many leadership capacities that has made an impact at both the school and district levels. Additionally, her reach expands both state-wide and nationally. Dr. Daniel has previously served as the President of the Maryland Association of Elementary School Principals supporting and advocating for principals and assistant principals across the state of Maryland. At the national level, Dr. Daniel has led the Center for Diversity Leadership as a Senior Fellow for the National Association of Elementary School Principals and is currently serving on the Board of Directors as the Minority Director at Large representative.
Supporting school leaders and building their capacity to meet the needs of their students, staff and community members is a passion of Dr. Daniel. Encouraging school leaders to revisit outdated methods and practices and reimagine education is her passion!
Dr. Kevin Armstrong, Nov. 19th - Luncheon Speaker
Dr. Kevin Armstrong was born and raised in the Nashville, Tennessee area. He was reared academically in the Metropolitan Nashville Public School system. As the son of a kindergarten teacher, Kevin learned very early that education was paramount in his life. He graduated from John Overton High School, in 1990, where he excelled in track and eld. He played a major role in John Overton High School winning the 1990 TSSAA Class AAA state title in track and eld. Using both academics and athletics, Kevin signed an athletic scholarship with Middle Tennessee State University in track and field.
During the 2016-2017 school year, he was named MNPS Middle School Principal of the Year. In April 2017, he was selected as the 2017 National Distinguished Principal for the state of Tennessee by the Tennessee Principals’ Association. In March 2018, he was selected as the Middle Level-Minority At-Large Director for the National Association of Elementary School Principals. On August 1st , 2019, Kevin began a three-year term as the Middle Level At-Large Director for the National Association of Elementary School Principals. In November 2020, Kevin was named as one of two nationwide fellows for NAESP’s Center for Middle Level Leadership. Finally, In March 2022, Kevin was elected as NAESP Vice President for the 2022-23 year. He served as NAESP President-Elect for the 2023-24 school year, and is now serving as the NAESP President in 2024-25.
While Kevin is continuing to build his business acumen, he also prides himself on putting his family first. Kevin is married to Crystal Armstrong. Together, they are the proud parents of three amazing children.
